About Our Pressure Switches
Pressure switches are also commonly referred to as vacuum switches, and they work under a specific pressure range to maintain compressor efficiency. Each switch mechanism connects to a bellows or diaphragm, which only works properly when within the operating range. When the compressor exceeds or goes lower than the operating range, the switch goes off, preventing the system from continuing operations.
Typically, air compressors have a PSI range of around 40-250, with an adjustable differential of 35-60. This means that the lowest pressure that the switch can be set to close at is 40 PSI, and the highest pressure it can be set to open at is 250 PSI. The differential refers to the difference between “cut-in” and “cut-out” pressures. For example, if your cut-in point is 40 PSI and the adjustable differential is 60, your cut-out point would be a maximum of 100.
The differential also tends to decrease as pressure increases, so if you regularly work in high-pressure applications, you may find your switch cutting out sooner than expected.
