Maintaining Water-Cooled Chiller Systems

Keeping your water-cooled chiller in order is relatively simple. These well-constructed systems can help your operations run efficiently for years at a time when properly cared for. During continuous operation, give your chiller a thorough examination every quarter. Even if you don’t use it every day, you should service it at least twice a year to check:

• Cooling and condenser fluids: The fluids you use to operate your chiller need to stay clean to perform at their best. Check that these fluids maintain a pH of 7 and have not become contaminated by debris or sediment.
• The electrical system: Every electrical system needs proper monitoring and care, and this becomes doubly important when the electrical systems are working in and around water. Performing regular checks on your chiller system will protect your equipment and the staff operating around it.
• Any place water flows through: Depending on the water source you use for your chiller, it will likely bring small amounts of sediment and minerals through your system. These materials build up over time and need clearing out for continued operational efficiency. Pay special attention to any tubing in your chiller, as these areas tend to get the most buildup.
